Lil Red

Man, we're working on a bunch of big neat projects right now which is super fun but no good for bloggin'.

I hope that you'll want to see some production art for a short, directed by Julia Vickerman, we recently finished for the good folks over at Red Baron Pizza. (thanks Ted!) They're going to show it in a big Semi-Truck trailer that travels around. What a venue!

A title card. I'm kind of lame but I'll never stop loving to look at title-safe templates. We should watch all shows through these sights.

And here is the star of the show waiting for the world to be drawn around her. She kind of looks like her director eh?

Here's the first sketch of her hanger.

...and the sketch over her drop zone. This gets inked and colored in illustrator and then....

Broken up and brought in as planes. This is what happens when you rotate the camera angle..kinda neat.

...and I liked this first sketch of the plane that Curtis did. He just finished his "Aces" comic book about WWI bi-planes, so he came into the project able to draw these things from every angle without reference. What luck!

More Lil' Red later...

Yo Gabba Gabba Wrap Party

On Saturday, Tony Christopherson and I went to the Yo Gabba Gabba wrap party at Downey Studios in Downey, CA. The party was mainly for everyone that worked on the show’s production (actors, camera men, etc.), not so much for the people who are currently doing post production. Our jobs have basically just begun.

The party took place in the fake neighborhood that was built for Christmas with the Kranks.

None of these houses are real, isn’t that kooky?

Here’s me and Christian Jacobs (lead singer of the Aquabats/ co-creator of YGG). Swoon!

An all-kid band called Wolf Gram (sp?) performed some original songs, plus some popular YGG hits. Watch for them on an episode of the show!

As the sun went down, you could almost hear Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis getting into a hilarious holiday-themed predicament.

After the meat of the party, the first couple episodes of the show were screened. Here you can see Elijah Wood teaching us how to do the “Puppet Master” dance. Sounds creepy, but the kids totally dug it!

PUNY at San Diego Comic-Con

PUNY doesn't have a home base at the con but Vinny, Zander, Tim, Curtis, Yui, Julia and I will all be attending. If you see us walking around..say "hey." Some people might be at publisher's booths and what-not and you should be able to find Vinny and Zander easily:

Vincent "King Mini" Stall will be sharing a table with Sam Hiti at BOOTH 1830 (across from GIANT ROBOT)

Zander Cannon & Big Time Attic in Artist's Alley Table FF-08 >Kevin will not be attending :(

Tim Sievert's new book "That Salty Air" is finished and will ship in December but you should still pre-order the book at the link above and stop by Top Shelf at BOOTH 1721 to meet some of their other authors and get their great books.

Curtis Square-Brigg's serialized "Aces" ran in Desperado's Negative Burn series. I'm not sure where the Desperado booth is this year but they're sure to have a presence.

Also, stop by these other booths to support people who've hired our studio!

Adhouse Books BOOTH 2104 Chris Pitzer publishes some of the best designed books out there..pick up our BTA story in Project:Romantic (and look for Vinny's Project:Telstar story on ebay or something)

GT LABS @ BOOTH 1901 Will be selling copies of "Bone Sharps, Cowboys, and Thunderlizards" as well as all his great science-based graphic novels. BTA has signed a deal to work on another book with Jim for a major publisher...stay tuned.

Then there is DC/Wildstorm BOOTH 1915 where you might find Zander signing but probably won't have anything on the new Top Ten series (yet:) ). Nickelodeon BOOTH 2515 will probably have some Yo Gabba Gabba sample that'll make you dance in the isle and Cartoon Network BOOTH 4045 who's new media team often comes down for the show.

SEE YOU THERE!

Yo Gabba Gabba!

The PUNY studios has been full of pre-school excitement for a while now and jump, jump, jumping around at being a part of something we really love. We're working on the new show for Nick Jr. called Yo Gabba Gabba!

We started by animating a short with Jesse Ledoux and are now doing all the show's animation under the super sweet art direction/illustraton of Parker Jacobs of Paul Frank Industries.

If you haven't heard about Yo Gabba Gabba yet go go go to their site and tell everybody with children over ONE to stay tuned. This show is going to be smart, fun, and real.

And watch this feature from E...There is a lot of great sneak peek stuff on Youtube.

LA PICTURES

Hiya, I had a great time in Los Angeles again mostly because of these guys:

KKB, Shannon, Nate, Jaimeson and their pals are incredibly fun and last year Los Feliz made me fall in love with LA.

I spent a while on my first day sitting at this desk and feeling perfect weather blow in through that window. Throw in a view of some palm trees and you have me all relaxed and ready to quit everything and write a novel about everything on my mind..which consisted of thinking about how relaxed I was at that desk. Infinity.

I was dreaming of Seth Bullock from Deadwood managing a Pinkberry yogurt shop when Shannon arrived and offered to drive me over to Jordan Crane's studio. He had a single especially-blank page to go on his new book but took some time to talk shop. I want my whole life covered in Jordan's screenprints.

At dinner Fairuza Balk sat two booths behind us with another actress who was being hilarious with her snooty white-wine shenanigans.

The next day Julia and Tony picked me up and we headed to the Yo Gabba Gabba studio to see about doing more animation for them. I was too busy oogling all of the great stuff they had lying around to take any photos. If you're not way into Yo Gabba Gabba already check it out. It's the perfect kid's show that Gen-X parents are actually going to enjoy watching with their kids. I'm going to watch it, they're doing everything just right and I spend most of my day with their songs in my head.

Then Julia drove us, aggressively but also skillfully, back up to Burbank to Cartoon Network HQ which isn't very well hidden:

Venture Bros, Plastic Man, and more+ Character Designer Uncle Phil showed us around the place and got us in on the Friday free coookie action. I was a total tourist and geeked out over eveything. Thanks thanks thanks Uncle Phil!

Here's Steffen working on some Frankie states for "Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends." We got a couple million DVDs of Foster's assets when working on the Burger King stuff with Ham and they're incredibly tight. He also introduced us to the wonders of AnimSlider Pro which I had seen but ignored. Dumb.

And finally..there were a ton of BEAUTIFUL character designs for Class of 3000. I could look at them forever. The new shows they have coming out all look terrific and nothing like their staples. CN is really pushing some good art.
